Local Park Getting New Improvements

More than $300,000 in grant money will be paying for some new improvements to Greenhouse Park.

CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP, SOMERSET COUNTY--- More than $300,000 in grant money will be paying for some new improvements to Greenhouse Park.

“We’ve had problems with sediment building up that is going to be fixed and also we will get new flush toilettes that we will be installing,” said Brad Clemenson.

Those are some of the improvements coming to Greenhouse Park in 2014.  The hope is that tourism will increase in the area and that’s good news for local business owners.

“We’ve seen a steady increase over the years being next to the park,” said John Gress.  “The more events they have they more business we get.”

The idea of improving the water ways is exciting for kayakers and tubers that use the river regularly.

“We’re happy for ourselves because we use this area but this is also improving our community,” said Richard Bloom, Benscreek Canoe and Kayak Club.

The project will get underway in the spring of 2014 and is expected to be finished by fall.
