Kicking Off Fire Prevention Week

Fire fighters, police officers and game commission officials gather to teach parents and children.
ALTOONA - Fire fighters, police officers and game commission officials all came together to kick off fire prevention week.

Many first responders gathered at the Home Depot at the Logan Town Center to show the tools of the trade and teach parents and kids about how to respond in the event of a fire.

Some adults had the chance to learn how to use a fire extinguisher on real flames, and kids used a simulated fire extinguisher to put out an artificial fire.

"This time of year in the fall and winter, people will be inside more," said Lakemont Fire Chief Tom Sral. "That's when most fires happen...people have trees, they don't water them, they dry out, and with people spending more time at home, there's more potential for accidents to happen, this is about being prepared."
