Joshua House Celebrates Anniversary

Community gathering shows support.
TYRONE, BLAIR COUNTY - Supporters of a community resource gathered in Northern Blair County today to celebrate fifteen years of success. The Joshua House has a long history of helping young people in Tyrone area.  Backers of the popular community center gathered Friday for a ribbon cutting to mark the anniversary.

The people in charge of the Joshua House say they have been able to make an impact on the lives of thousands of young people over the past fifteen years. By offering a variety of programs that range from sports leagues, an annual hoops fest, community dinners and after school drop in programs, this faith based outreach has been able to draw plenty of support and interest in the Tyrone community.

Business and civic leaders gathered to celebrate the program's past success and look forward to future activities. The founder of the Joshua House said it is the support that has been show by the community that has allowed Joshua house programs to make a difference to so many young people.

"And people care about the kids, people care about the community, and we are passionate about seeing Tyrone become a better place, and whatever role we can play in that we want to do that and whether it is with the kids or serving some dinners or helping people during Christmas time, those are the things that we want to do to help make a change and make our community a better place."

Kilmartin went on to say that since Tyrone lost it YMCA several years ago, the Joshua House community center has become an important gathering place for the entire Tyrone community.
