We’re launching a new segment on Central PA Live, called “Hot Spots”, where we feature all the must-see places and events around our area.

In terms of holiday décor, Conklin’s Corner is one of the hottest spots around.

It may not look a lot like Christmas outside, but one step inside of the Christmas Room at Conkin’s Corner, and you’ll be walking in a winter wonderland.

"It's my favorite room in the whole shop,” said Co-Owner Terri Conklin.  She spends a lot of time in this room.  She starts setting it up late in the Spring, and works right through Summer to get it ready for its annual opening on Labor Day.

"People in the area may think it's a little bit early to open up Labor Day weekend, but we open up because we do get so many travelers at this location," said Conklin.  "I have people that are just disappointed when they're traveling through, and not going to be back for the Christmas season, that we're not open earlier."

You’ll understand their disappointment, once you see everything they’re missing out on.

"We try to go that extra mile," said Conklin.

The Christmas room takes up half of the second floor of the shop.  It is stocked from wall to wall, and floor to ceiling with everything Christmas, all organized into themes.

"You start, when you first walk in, it'll be a very country theme, and then you'll go through and there will be cardinals in one section, and then the linens, and we have a vintage Christmas area as well," said Conklin.

There are snowmen.

"A lot of snowmen,” said Conklin.

A nativity area…

"We don't want to forget the reason for the season,” said Conklin.

And more Santas than you could ever imagine.  There are traditional Santas, giant Santas, Harley Santas, Camo Santas, you name it, they have it.

"When I do the buying for the shop, I always try to find different things, and it's hard sometimes, because there's only so much you can do with Christmas,” said Conklin, “But I always try to look for that different item."

And the inventory is constantly evolving, because new shipments and new products are arriving almost daily.

"We're always getting things in," said Conklin.  "We hope to keep our shelves full right up until Christmas day so that you can find that perfect gift."

Including this season’s hottest trends, like lighted canvases, Jim Shore ornaments, or that rascal, Elf on the Shelf.

"I hope that everyone can come and enjoy the Christmas room,” said Conklin.

But if you’re not in the holiday spirit quite yet, not to worry, the entire first floor is non-seasonal, and packed to the ceiling with goodies.

"We have antiques and collectibles on the left hand side of our shop downstairs, and on the right hand side we have a huge country gift shop,” said Conklin.

“Huge” being the key word; It includes a boutique area, featuring handbags and jewelry.

"The Kameleon is our most popular line,” said Conklin.  “It is sterling silver and you can purchase rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and the pop that you purchase to put in the center of the piece of jewelry can change throughout your different pieces."

And then there’s a section for just about everybody.

"We have  kitchen section with roosters, we have a deer section with men's gifts, we have linens and table cloths, we also have a wine section, a religious section, we have a lot of candles,” said Conklin.  “We also have a small sports section, we sell York wallpapers and borders, so there's a little bit of everything for anyone."

All to insure you get that perfect gift you can’t find anywhere else.

"We enjoy the shop, it's kind of a labor of love," said Conklin.
