Harry Smith Undergoes Colonoscopy Live On The Air

CBS Morning Show Host Harry Smith treated viewers to a close-up look at his colon.

CBS Morning Show Host Harry Smith treated viewers to a close-up look at his colon. To increase awareness of colorectal cancer, Harry became the first news anchor to undergo a colonoscopy, live on the air.

He was supported by his colleague Katie Couric who went with him to the procedure. Ten years ago, she was the first news personality to have a colonoscopy live on tape, after her husband died of the disease.

You need to undergo colonoscopy when you turn 50, earlier if you have a family history of the disease or experience symptoms, such as blood in the stool or constipation, that indicate that something's wrong with your colon.
