PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - Redshirt senior running back Kyle Harbridge has been added to the Walter Payton Award Watch List, announced Tuesday morning. The Sports Network presents the award annually to the outstanding player in the FCS. Harbridge is one of 20 players currently on the watch list.
Through four games this season, Harbridge is first in the FCS in rushing yards per game (188.3) and is only 13 yards behind the national leader in rushing yards with his 753. He is seventh in the nation in rushing touchdowns with eight. He also leads the nation in all-purpose yards per game, averaging 236.25 yards.
In his past two games, Harbridge has rushed for 521 yards and seven scores. That includes Saturday’s 291-yard, three touchdown performance against No. 16 Fordham. With 3,260 yards, Harbridge is just 154 yards behind Todd Harris for the school’s career rushing record.
The Payton Award Watch List can undergo revision during the season. Ballots will be sent to a national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries following the regular season. The top three vote-getters will be invited to The Sports Network FCS Awards Presentation Dec. 16 in Philadelphia.
Former winners of the Payton Award include Steve McNair, John Friesz, Brian Westbrook, Tony Romo, Brian Finneran and Armanti Edwards.
Harbridge and the Red Flash are in action Saturday in the NEC opener at Central Connecticut.
