Coal truck crash in Cambria County
CAMBRIA TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- One man was killed Tuesday morning when his coal slammed into an embankment.
It happened around 7:30 in the morning on Route 422 near the intersection of Route 219.  Police believe the driver of the coal truck swerved to miss another truck pulling onto Route 422.
The Cambria County Coroner was called to the scene.  The driver of the truck was identified as 65-year old Donald Gregg of Sankertown Borough, Cambria County.  He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and died from multiple traumatic injuries.  His death was ruled an accident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation; officials believe however the weather played a major role.
“It was extremely foggy out here,” said Hose Lt. Ben Peacock, Dauntless Fire Company.  “We shut the road down due to the nature of the crash.”
Friends of Gregg said he served for years as a marine.
Cambria Township Police, Ebensburg Borough and State Police are investigating.
