ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - A local fire chief is going from protecting his community to protecting his country.
Chief Tim Hileman is heading to Kuwait to be part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Hileman is the Chief of the Altoona Fire Department. He's also part of the Homeland Security Response Team here in Central Pennsylvania. On top of all that, he also serves in the military. He spent six years on active duty and more than 20 in the PA National Guard.

Friday will head to Fort Indiantown Gap for soldier readiness processing and training. Then he'll go to Kuwait to support a training mission of young non-commissioned officers.

Back here at home the current Deputy Chief Michael Tofano will serve as Acting Chief with the Altoona Fire Department.

Chief Hileman spent the evening with his family. He hopes to be back in time for Thanksgiving.
