Fentanyl On The Rise

A drug that killed dozens of people back in 2006 is on the rise again.
ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - A drug that killed dozens of people back in 2006 is on the rise again.

Fentanyl has already killed 50 people this year in Pennsylvania. Most of those deaths came out of the Harrisburg area, but some were in Westmoreland County.

The State Department of Drug and Alcohol is forming a task force to work with coroners, police and other local officials to track where the drug is showing up.

Fentanyl is an opiate that when abused can slow down a person's respiratory system till they just stop breathing and die.

Judy Rosser with Blair County Drug and Alcohol says they're watching for it to show up in our area.
