JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- Johnstown Police are investigating a homicide in Johnstown’s Moxham neighborhood, where a boyfriend allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death.

It happened right around 4:50 Tuesday morning at the car wash across from the Dollar General on Bridge Street.  Elizabeth Miller was allegedly stabbed in the back and taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical where she later died.  Police are searching for her on-off again boyfriend Demetrius Gibson who allegedly committed the murder.

“The victim’s brother witnessed the attack,” said Police Captain Andy Frear.  “There was a domestic situation earlier and then the two met there and another domestic occurred prior to her being stabbed.”

“We ruled the death a homicide,” said Cambria County Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski.  “She died from a single stab wound.”

Miller’s death is the second domestic homicide in the city’s Moxham neighborhood in less than a week; it is the fifth homicide in the city this year.  Police said none are related and each has a different motive.

‘Each homicide case is its own,” said First Assistant Heath Long.  “It is not a trend.”

Miller is from Tire Hill in Somerset County.

“We are working with the Somerset District Attorney’s office and have executed search warrants in both Cambria and Somerset,” said Long.

Melissa Hoppe lives in Moxham she said the violence is upsetting.

“It’s pathetic,” said Hoppe.  “I can’t really take it anymore, I moved here to get away from the crime and I ended up right back in it.”

Anyone with information on Gibson’s whereabouts is asked to call 1-800-281-1680.
