Does Drug Testing Work?

Does random drug testing actually keep high schoolers from using, a new study just out says no.
EBENSBURG, CAMBRIA COUNTY - Does random drug testing actually keep high schoolers from using, a new study just out says no. Drug testing doesn't stop kids from using drugs.

Parents at a high school basketball game weren't surprised random drug testing isn't producing results.

The Journal for Studies on Alcohol and Drugs just published a study saying drug testing doesn't work. But it says a positive school environment makes a difference.

Parents at the game agree, a mother of a Junior said if you’re always putting kids down they will lean towards drug using. She also thinks after school activities and sports are another good way to keep kids clean.

Connor Semelsberger graduated from Bishop Carroll last year and says students did think about the random testing. He was tested a couple of times and he says that possibility is always in the back of your mind.

Whether they think it really works or not, everyone that talked with WTAJ thought school should keep random testing just in case it makes a difference.

The study didn't find anything that worked to keep high schoolers from drinking.
