Work Zones Worry PennDOT, Turnpike

A death, and numerous close calls spark statement.
HARRISBURG - One death and numerous scares has PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission asking drivers to be more aware in construction zones.

A turnpike employee was killed in a work-zone crash on June 1st and the commission says there have been numerous close calls since then. On Monday the two groups came together to remind people to use caution and be alert when heading through a work zone.

"Those workers are just like you and I. THey've got families, parents, kids, brothers and sisters and they're going to work like you and I do and they're expecting to come home. That is where you come in. You need to pay attention to our work zones and remember right beside you is someone's life at stake," Barry Schoch, PennDOT Secretary says.
