Woman Killed In Wrong-Way Crash

Driver going the wrong way on a highway killed in crash.
SOUTH FORK, CAMBRIA COUNTY - Just after six o’clock Monday night police received a call about a woman driving the wrong way along Route 219 in Cambria County.

“Unfortunately before the police could locate the vehicle she struck another vehicle traveling south in a northbound lane,” Cambria County Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski says.

Kwiatkowski says the woman behind the wheel of the car hit this pickup truck head on just before the South Fork/Portage exit.

The driver of the car was killed instantly.

A woman and two children were in the pickup truck. The two kids suffered minor injuries, and the woman was severely injured.

A third car was also involved in the crash, but the driver was not hurt.

Route 219 northbound was shut down for hours as police re-constructed the scene.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated, but Kwiatkowski says it could have been a lot worse.

“Unfortunately there was no place for these vehicles to go so we're just going to piece it together and just go from there,” Kwiatkowski says.

None of the names of the people involved in the crash have been released as police notify family members. More information is expected to come out Tuesday.
