Will Phil be Sued Again?

We take an in-depth look at Groundhog Day and talk to Phil to see if he is ready for this year.
PUNXSUTAWNEY, JEFFERSON COUNTY - This year will be the 128th celebration of Groundhog Day.

The February 2, tradition was started in 1887 when a group of German settlers brought the tradition of Candlemas Day. They found Groundhogs were plentiful and could carry on the tradition well.

The same Phil that was used all those years ago is still used today. He drinks a special elixir each summer and it gives him 7 more years of life.

As the story goes, no matter what Phil predicts, 6 more weeks of winter, or an early Spring, the Inner Circle says he is always right.

They are the  top hat wearing group of dignitaries challenged with keeping the holiday celebration alive.

Among them is Ron Ploucha, Phil's co-handler. He says Phil is ready for this year. He has been sleeping 23. 5 hours a day.

Despite Phil nearly  being sued last year, for predicting an early spring that did not come Ploucha says it is not an issue. The president took the blame for misinterpreting Phil and has seen relearned Groundhogeese.

Everyone is ready for Sunday.
