Teen Births, Abortions Drop Dramatically

Report finds big change since the 1990's.

A new report finds that teen pregnancy, birth and abortion rates have reached historic lows.

The survey by the Guttmacher Institute shows a dramatic decline in the numbers in every state and among all racial and ethnic groups since their peak in the early 1990's.

Researchers found that by 2010, the teen birth rate had declined 44 percent since 1991, and the abortion rate had dropped 66 percent since its peak in 1988.

In 2010, approximately 6 percent of teens became pregnant, the lowest rate in more than 30 years.

Pennsylvania ranks 34th in the nation in the number of pregnancies, births, and abortions in teenagers.
