Tears And Tension In Courtroom

Two families react after plea agreement reached and one man goes to jail.
HOLLIDAYSBURG, BLAIR COUNTY – Two families appeared at the Blair County Courthouse on Thursday, one mourning the loss of a loved one, the other sad to see the man likely responsible for that loss go to jail.

John McAndrew faces serious charges ranging from homicide by vehicle to driving under the influence.

In May of 2012, McAndrew got behind the wheel with his blood alcohol level doubling Pennsylvania’s legal limit. He hit and killed 32-year old Phillip Bottenfield, who was on his motorcycle at the time.

McAndrew reached a plea agreement and now faces approximately 22 months in jail.

McAndrew’s mother cried as her son was put in hand-cuffs.

Prior to the sentencing, Phillip Bottenfield’s family learned his 41-year old sister, Lisa Jean Bottenfield was in the hospital suffering serious injuries because of a crash on her motorcycle.

Hollidaysburg police believe Bottenfield was driving under the influence, she consented to a legal blood test and charges are pending the results.

Police also say she was not wearing a helmet and did not possess a valid motorcycle license.
