Suspect Wounded by Trooper Following Pursuit

The pursuit began after state police spotted a vehicle which had been reported stolen.
SNOW SHOE, CENTRE COUNTY – A man is in the hospital in stable condition after being shot by police at the end of a police pursuit that started in Clearfield County.

The pursuit ended near the Snow Shoe Rest Area on the eastbound lanes of I-80 Thursday morning.

The pursuit began when State Police attempted to pull over a vehicle which was listed as stolen from the DuBois area in early November. The suspect fled and was stopped after two sets of stop sticks were deployed.

According to State Police, the suspect refused commands by troopers at the scene and made a motion that forced a trooper to shoot the suspect in the arm.

The suspect was subdued by an officer with a taser and given first aid before an ambulance arrived.

The suspect gave statements to police indicating he hoped for a suicide by cop. He is in an area hospital in stable condition and will be taken into custody following his release from the hospital.

The troopers will be placed on administrative duties during the investigation.
