LORETTO, CAMBRIA COUNTY - A local college is celebrating its second time at the top of the heap. St. Francis University's been chosen this year's healthiest workplace in western Pennsylvania by "Pittsburgh Business Week."
It's because the university offers its employees almost all the help they need for a healthy lifestyle. That means a free lunchtime exercise class, screening for blood pressure and cholesterol, weight checks, stress management, and even personal nutrition coaching.
The aim is to help employees be as healthy and productive as possible.
According to Melinda Krimmel, the Assistant Director of the DiSepio Fitness Center and Health Promotion Services,"this is a big thing for us. This is the second out of 3 years that we've won this for Healthiest Employer, so it really goes to show that we're making improvements in the health and wellness programs we have to offer and also improvements in the lives of our employees on campus."
Krimmel says about 40 percent of St. Francis employees take advantage of the health and wellness programs. She says those who do have lost weight, seen their blood pressure, and cholesterol drop, and now take fewer medications.
New initiatives include a back pain prevention program and more options for personal training.
