EVERETT, BEDFORD COUNTY - State Police are investigating an attempted homicide and a suspicious fire at the same home in Bedford County and the man who was shot say the shooter used to be his friend.

Steven Dunkle is in the Bedford County Jail. He charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and some drug charges. Police say he shot his neighbor with a shotgun during an argument early Thursday morning in Everett, Bedford County.

Craig Showalter says he and Steven Dunkle got into a fight early Thursday morning at Dunkle's house. Showalter tried to leave and heard the gunshot. He says he felt warmth on the back of his neck and then he was shot a second time in the leg.

Showalter is home from the hospital and Dunkle is in police custody. And Friday afternoon Showalter says he saw a man at Dunkle's house and around six saw that home on fire.

Bedford County District Attorney Bill Higgins doesn't want to jump to any conclusions. But he agreed this is an unusual case. He called it an odd set of circumstances and certainly suspicious. He’s confident the State Police will get to the bottom of it. And doesn't think any evidence was destroyed in the fire.

Showalter is shaken up, but he's thankful to be alive.

The State Police Fire Marshal is investigating the fire at the home.
