Sen. Mitchell Says More Sanction Reductions Possible

The Maine lawmaker has praised the university for its compliance with the Freeh Report.
UNIVERSITY PARK, CENTRE COUNTY – Maine Senator George Mitchell addressed the Penn State Board of Trustees Friday morning, leaving the possibility of future reductions in NCAA sanctions against the school.

Mitchell, serving as Penn State’s Athletic Integrity Monitor to the NCAA, recommended the first round of sanction reductions in September. He is now recommending a “multi-stage” approach to the NCAA, leaving room for future reductions.

Mitchell’s next annual report is due in September 2014.
