Ride For Eli

Two bike runs will be held to raise money for a little boy severely burned on a family camping trip.
JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- Two bike runs will be held to raise money for a little boy severely burned on a family camping trip.

Eli Bender was at his grandparents’ camp in Potter County when he tripped and fell into a fire pit.  More than 30% of his body was covered in second and third degree burns.  He was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Medical Center.

His grandparents are members of the Johnstown Red Knights Chapter.  The group decided to help the family out to cover mounting medical costs.

"The medical bills are adding up not to mention the fact that people forget about the outstanding bills the things that medical doesn't cover like the travel expenses," said Dave Rykala, Secretary, Red Knights.

The group launched the "Red Knights for Eli" Campaign.  Fund raisers have been organized, including this year's Jackson Township Poker Run on July 19th, as well as the Conemaugh MedStar Ride on August 16th.

"Through some cooperation from other organizations in the area we've been able to have Eli name beneficiary of the events," said Rykala.

An account has been set up for anyone wishing to help donations can be made at any S&T Bank branch, in care of the Eli William Bender Benefit Fund.
