Representative Sam Smith Announces Retirement

Smith has represented the 66th District in Harrisburg for more than 25 years.
HARRISBURG, DAUPHIN COUNTY – The State Speaker of the House announced Tuesday he will retire at the end of his current term.

Sam Smith (R – Armstrong, Jefferson, Indiana) announced he will not see re-election at the end of his term. He has been a representative for 27 years, and speaker since 2011.

In a statement Smith said he was encouraged by friends and supporter to run again, but “My heart is not in it, and my effort would be sub-par, and that would not be fair or good for any of us. The job of state representative demands 100% attention.”

Smith also thanked everyone who has supported him over the years.
