Reading Rainbow Kickstarter ends campaign

The push to bring the show back in an online format and for classrooms surpassed their original goal in less than 24 hours.
LOS ANGELES – The Kickstarter campaign to bring “Reading Rainbow” back as a program for classrooms ended Wednesday, making more than $5 million.

The program launched in early June and reached its initial goal of $1 million in less than 24 hours.

Host LeVar Burton set a stretch goal of $5 million, but the influx of donations slowed in the final weeks of the project. “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane pledged in late June to match every dollar raised from $4 million to $5 million.

The project closed out with $5,408,145. Adding Mr. MacFarlane's pledge the campaign raised $6,408,145.

When the new “Reading Rainbow” program is launched, it is expected to be available in approximately 7,500 classrooms for free.
