Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Reigning American League Rookie of the Year Wil Myers is expected to be sidelined into August after being diagnosed with a slight stress fracture in his right wrist, the Tampa Bay Rays announced Tuesday.

The Rays said that Myers will not require surgery to repair the injury, but he will have his arm placed in a cast for 5-to-6 weeks before beginning rehabilitation.

Myers was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, two days after he hurt his wrist in an outfield collision with teammate Desmond Jennings during Tampa Bay's 3-2 loss to Boston in Fenway Park.

The 23-year-old captured the AL's top rookie honor after batting .293 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI in just 88 games last season, but was in the midst of a sophomore slump in 2014. Myers was hitting just .227 with five homers and 25 RBI through 53 games at the time of the injury.
