UNIVERSITY PARK, CENTRE COUNTY - Penn State has been named the best university in the state for students who want to go into the military.

The ROTC cadets start their day long before most of their other classmates. They have morning PT. Some of them actually enjoy their early morning workouts.

Connor Camp says it makes him feel more alert for class. He’s always wanted to serve his country, and he thought the best way for him to do that was to become and officer. And he thought Penn State was the best place for him to do that.

The College Database agreed. They recently named Penn State the number one college in Pennsylvania for future service members.

They highlighted the fact Penn State has ROTC programs for Army, Navy and Air Force. The Navy program also trains future officers for the Marine Corps.

The ranking wasn't a surprise to the cadets. Danny Bopp thinks Penn State is even better than West Point because you get top notch military training with the well-rounded college education Penn State provides.

Hannah Weiner is one of the cadets who will graduate this year, and become an officer. She says she’s been waiting for her commission for four years and it will make all the hard work worthwhile.

And Deputy Military Science Professor Lieutenant Colonel Robert Kennedy says there’s no greater satisfaction then to see the young men and women grow into fine officers.
