Pre-Pregnancy Diet Could Lead to Prematurity

Moms who got lots of take-out, more likely to give birth early.

What a woman eats before she gets pregnant could affect her chances of giving birth prematurely.

Researchers looked at the eating patterns of more than 300 women. They found that women who consistently ate a diet high in protein and fruit before becoming pregnant were less likely to have a pre-term birth.

However, those who consistently ate high fat and sugar foods and take-out were about 50-percent more likely to give birth prematurely.

Preterm birth is a leading cause of infant disease and death.

The results of the study are in the Journal of Nutrition
