Power Restored in Huntingdon County

Many homes and businesses in one county were left in the dark due to faulty equipment.
SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP, HUNTINGDON COUNTY - Many homes and businesses in one county were left in the dark due to faulty equipment.

The last of the power was restored around 4:00 Thursday afternoon, but it was a tough afternoon for several businesses.

Wednesday there was an equipment malfunction at a Penelec substation in Smithfield Township, Huntingdon County. That knocked out power to 1,100 customers.

Crews got power back on to most of those customers and then they had another problem at the same station on Thursday. That problem knocked power out to two thousand people.

Some of the last people to get up and running were several businesses along Route 22. Several chain restaurants just closed their doors. But the OIP relied on their gas ovens to cook pizza and stayed open even without electricity. People did still come in to the restaurant and ate in the dark. But it was tough on the people working.
