Pitt Launches New Brain Disease and Injury Studies

Researchers will tackle Parkinson's and traumatic brain injury.
PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA - Researchers in Pittsburgh are launching new efforts to study diseases and injuries that affect the brain. One group of scientists at the University of Pittsburgh Brain Institute plans to hunt for new drugs to treat Parkinson's disease, ALS, and related conditions.

A second group will explore the use of new imaging technology in traumatic brain injury,  as it affects military veterans.

The studies are being funded by $3.5 million in grants from the DSF Charitable Foundation, headquartered in Pittsburgh.
