Penn State Win Generates Big Bucks for Businesses

A big win for Penn State sports, is also a big win for local businesses.
STATE COLLEGE, CENTRE COUNTY - A big weekend for Penn State sports, is also a big win for local businesses.

It's a game that will go down in history.

"I went to Joe Pa's 400th win, nothing compared to this," one fan said. "I've never seen the crowd like that, it felt so good to be back. Amazing."

And it's a big win that's bringing a big boost to State College.

"We had record sales," Damon's Grill Manager, Brandon Perret said. "We beat our previous record by almost $8,000."

Perret says Damon's has been a packed house since Thursday, bringing in record sales of over $43,000 in just one day, something he calls unprecedented.

"This is definitely one of the biggest [weekends]," he said.

Clothing stores downtown are slammed, too.

"We have definitely been slammed all day," Old State Clothing Store Associate, Alex Cole, said. "I'm the only employee currently working here and I've been having trouble keeping up with the crowd."

Cole says it's thanks to loyal alumni and a winning weekend for Penn State sports.

"We've been selling a lot of hockey gear because we had the big win for our first game," she said. "A lot of people are coming in, asking for our hockey stuff, along with anything that says 'football' on it."

She hopes the momentum will keep going.

"We'd like to keep it up for the rest of the year," Cole said. "I know Penn State has a bunch of big events in one weekend and we'd love to spread that out throughout the year and get customers in here every weekend."

A weekend full of wins, for everyone.

"Everybody wants to go home, they're proud of their team and they want to show off that they are Penn State," Cole said.

Final sales numbers for the weekend in State College have not been released. We will update you when they are.
