Penn State Practices in Ireland

The Nittany Lions prepare for Saturday's game

It's day number one on the ground for Penn State football.

The Nittany Lions just wrapped up their first practice in Ireland.

Head coach James Franklin refuses to use the word tired.

But there's an adjustment to be made after that trans-atlantic flight.

“ The first game of the year is always the mental. But obviously you have to - after going through a trip like what we've gone through, there's some physical aspects that you have to be aware of as well. But I think in the beginning of the year, it's always the mental. The trip has made a physical challenge,” says James Franklin.

Christian Hackenberg agrees:  “You have to be physically prepared in terms of getting your sleep, getting your nutrition. But also, to be able to mentally focus and be able to get that switch flipped and be able to turn that focus on when you need it.”

Although the calendar says it's Wednesday, Franklin called today's practice a bit of a Thursday light.

That means it was more of a walk through of what they'll be going through at practice tomorrow as they get ready for Saturday's Croke Park Classic.
