Penn State Digging Out of the Snow

Penn State dismisses early Thursday because of winter weather.
PENN STATE, UNIVERSITY PARK - Penn State's main campus dismissed early Thursday afternoon for winter weather.

The snow fell steadily throughout the day, accumulating heavily on sidewalks and roadways. Crews at Penn State had to plow and re-plow sidewalks, roadways and parking lots across campus to keep everyone safe while traveling.

Members of the Office of Physical Plant say this winter has brought more snow than they expected. With a budget set between $500,000 and $600,000 for winter weather treatment, they've exceeding that, using nearly $1.15 million so far this season.

Crews have 67 miles of sidewalks to clear for the nearly 14,000 students who live on the university's main campus, as well as other students and faculty who commute.

The university just renewed their salt supply as well. They have declared a Midnight Clear Thursday evening.
