Penn State Adds New Medical Program

College of Medicine announces its first physician assistant class.
HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA - Penn State's College of Medicine is adding a new program in a fast-growing health field. Thirty students will begin their studies this spring in the new physician assistant program at Hershey Medical Center.

Penn State says the 24-month graduate course will focus on preparing students to provide preventive health care. Physicians assistants are licensed to practice medicine under the supervision of physicians.

Penn State says 1900 people applied for the 30 slots in the program's first class.
