Pa Hospitals Invest $100 Billion in State

Money goes to communities for jobs, charity care.
HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA - The organization that represents Pennsylvania hospitals says they contributed $104 billion dollars to local and state economies between 2011 and 2012.
The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) says that number includes the support of nearly 600,000 jobs -about one in 10  jobs in the state.

HAP  says hospitals employ about 272,000 people directly, and create 320,000 spinoff jobs.

The organization says hospitals also contribute nearly $6 billion in charitable  benefits including more than $1 billion in unpaid patient bills and nearly $2.3 billion to subsidize care for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.
