Norway's Hattestad sneaks into men's sprint free final

<p>Norwegian cross country skier Ola Vigen Hattestad won his semifinal heat on Tuesday to secure a spot in the final of the men's sprint free competition.</p>

Krasnaya Polyana, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) - Norwegian cross country skier Ola Vigen Hattestad won his semifinal heat on Tuesday to secure a spot in the final of the men's sprint free competition.

Hattestad turned in the top time of the semifinals after crossing the finish line in 3 minutes, 36.33 seconds, just ahead of Sweden's Teodor Peterson.

Russia's Sergey Ustiugov won the second semifinal heat to advance to the final, while Sweden's Emil Joensson followed in second.

Norway's Anders Gloeersen and Sweden's Marcus Hellner also moved on to the final as the lucky losers, finishing with the two fastest times of those skiers outside the top two in their heats.

Norwegian Petter Northug, a bronze medalist in this event at the Vancouver Games, finished fifth in the second heat and missed the final.
