Neighborhood Watch Disaster Preparedness

Neighborhood watch and disaster preparedness come together.
ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - Neighborhood watch and disaster preparedness come together.

The Blair County neighborhood watch held their first meeting of the year Tuesday night. But instead of just asking people to keep an eye out for crime they asked people to get certified to help out in a disaster.

The Community Emergency Response Team training takes 20 hours long and 150 people in Blair County have gone through it.

Craig Wingate took the training a few months ago. It made him more confident about getting his own family ready.

Sheriff Mitch Cooper says that training will work hand in hand with the neighborhood watch program because the public helping out with the disaster enhances police officer’s ability to provide safety.

Emergency officials would like to have five hundred people certified. To sign up call Christine Stacey at 814-940-5901.
