Monday Morning Forecast, July 28, 2014

Cool and breezy today with a few spotty showers around.
UPDATED MONDAY MORNING, JULY 28TH
REPORTED BY METEOROLOGIST REGINA MILLER

TODAY WILL BE BREEZY AND COOLER.  SUSTAINED WINDS WILL BE IN THE TEN TO TWENTY MILES PER HOUR RANGE WITH GUSTS COULD RANGE FROM TWENTY TO 30 MILES PER HOUR.  HIGHS TODAY WILL BE IN THE UPPER 60s IN SOME OF THE NORTHWESTERN RIDGES ALONG ROUTE 219 AND NORTH OF THE INTERSTATE 80 CORRIDOR.  TEMPERATURES TO THE SOUTH AND EAST IN LOCATIONS SUCH AS HUNTINGDON, BEDFORD AND ALTOONA WILL BE IN THE LOW 70s.  IT WILL BE VARIABLY CLOUDY.  THERE IS ALSO A SLIGHT CHANCE FOR THUNDER.  WHEN THERE IS COOLER AIR ALOFT (LIKE THERE IS THIS WEEK), ONCE THE SUN COMES UP, DAYTIME HEATING CAN LEAD TO INSTABILITY CLOUDS AND PERHAPS A SHOWER.  THAT OCCURS BECAUSE THE SUNSHINE HEATS THE AIR AT THE SURFACE CAUSING IT TO RISE AND IT CONDENSES QUICKLY IN THE COOLER AIR ALOFT CAUSING CLOUDS TO BUILD AND OCCASIONALLY A SHOWER.  OFTEN TIMES THE SUNSET ALLOWS CLOUDS TO DISSIPATE.  TEMPERATURES WILL BE COOL DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS FOR MUCH OF THIS WEEK AS WELL WITH LOWS RANGING FROM THE UPPER 40s IN SOME SPOTS TO THE LOW 50s OTHERS.  BECAUSE OF THE TROUGH IN THE JETSTREAM WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEE THE CHANCE FOR A SHOWER OR STORM NEARLY EVERYDAY THIS WEEK.  OTHERWISE WE'LL HAVE CLOUDS WHICH WILL OCCASIONALLY BREAK FOR SUNSHINE.  MUCH OF THE WEEK WE WILL BE RUNNING FIFTEEN TO TWENTY DEGREES BELOW WHAT WE WOULD TYPICALLY EXPECT TO SEE FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.  AS A RIDGE STARTS TO BUILD AGAIN IN THE JETSTREAM FOR THE LATE WEEK INTO THE WEEKEND, TEMPERATURES WILL FINALLY START TO WARM BACK INTO THE LOW TO MID 80s.  HOWEVER, EVEN THOUGH TEMPS WILL START TO BECOME A BIT WARMER, THE CHANCE FOR SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS WILL STILL PERSIST ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AS WELL.
