Medicaid Expansion: a Way to Cut State Deficit?

Medicaid Expansion: a Way to Cut State Deficit?

Proponents gather in Harrisburg to urge action.

Governor Corbett is still waiting to hear from the federal government whether Pennsylvania will have to expand its Medicaid  program, but organizations supporting the move are urging the administration to move now.

The Cover the Commonwealth Campaign called a news conference Monday in the state capitol. Members say expanding Medicaid  before June 30 would help cover part of the state's expected $1.3 billion dollar deficit.
They say by failing to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, Pennsylvania will miss the opportunity to generate $600 million in state budget savings.

The group includes AARP, the National Physicians Alliance and the Disability Rights Network.
