Man Heads To Trial On Church Theft Case

Paul Younkin waived his charges Tuesday afternoon on allegations he stole copper from the Holy Ascension Orthodox Church.
COLVER, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- Paul Younkin waived his charges Tuesday afternoon on allegations he stole copper from the Holy Ascension Orthodox Church.

The 31-year old told WTAJ News as he walked into court when asked why he committed the crime:

“I just said what they wanted me to say, they (police) told me I wouldn’t go to jail,” said Younkin.

Younkin is accused of ripping copper out of the church back in August, including stealing tables, chairs and event baskets that were donated for a fundraiser.  Police claim some items were found inside of his Colver home.

Younkin remains in the Cambria County Jail.
