TYRONE, BLAIR COUNTY - You can now call Tyrone Hospital, Tyrone Regional Health Network, and along with that name change will come a whole new look. On Tuesday, Hospital officials unveiled plans for a 38,000 square foot expansion with a price tag of $20 million dollars. It'll include the doubling of the emergency department, new radiology equipment and services, larger patient rooms, and increased orthopedic care,
The plans call for a new wing, containing the hospital entrance, to be built along a bank to the right of the current facility.
What is now the front lobby will be used for orthopedic care.
Hospital CEO & President Steve Gildea says, "this project's going to position Tyrone Hospital for the next 60 years, We're going to have a new building, new patient rooms, new operating room capability."
He says Tyrone Regional hopes to raise $2 million dollars in a capital campaign in the community and acquire the rest of the funding through low-interest government loans and grants.
The name change is designed to reflect the facility's network of services which include its own Breast Care and Women's Health Institute and Fitness and Wellness Center, as well as the Tyrone Hospital Rural Health Clinic, and ProCare Physical Therapy Clinic.
Groundbreaking for the project is slated for the fall, with completion expected by the end of next year.
