Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Louisville will be without top wide receiver DeVante Parker for at least half of the upcoming 2014 season due to a broken bone in his left foot, head coach Bobby Petrino announced Monday.
Petrino told reporters that Parker, considered one of the top senior wideout prospects for the 2015 NFL Draft, is undergoing surgery in North Carolina and has a 6-to-8 week timetable for recovery.
The Cardinals open their 2014 season Monday at home against Miami-Florida, which will mark Louisville's first-ever game as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Parker led Louisville with 885 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 55 catches as a junior last season and was named to this year's Preseason All-ACC Team.
"You're never going to replace a guy like DeVante with one guy," said Petrino. "We'll need a lot of guys to step up in his absence."
