Local Man Sentenced for Drunken Rampage

Craig Thompson will spend several years in prison in addition to fines and restitution.
BELLEFONTE, CENTRE COUNTY - A man who went on a drunken rampage in April 2013 was sentenced to 8-20 years in prison Thursday, and ordered to pay restitution and fines.

Craig Thompson of Coalport entered guilty pleas in January to more than 40 separate charges which included 11 felonies, 15 misdemeanors and 15 summary offenses. Among the felonies were three counts of Aggravated Assault, one count of Burglary, and two counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking.

According to court documents, Thompson stole a 1997 Dodge Ram from a man camping with his friends and family in the Philipsburg area the evening of April 13, 2013. In the process he rammed a woman’s vehicle and ran over another woman, crushing her ankle.

Police say after fleeing the scene, Thompson broke into the Royal Oak bar and destroyed a fish tank with a cigar roller at his sister’s house.

Police quickly apprehended Thompson after he abandoned the stolen truck in a field. Court documents say that in an attempt to escape, Thompson tried to take control of a State Police cruiser and rammed another police vehicle. Troopers had to break the window and taze Thompson in order to subdue him.

In addition to his jail sentence, Thompson was ordered to pay more than $43,000 in restitution and more than $4,000 in fines.
