Folks in some local towns are putting out their purple this week. The Northern Blair Relay for Life which encompasses Bellwood, Tyrone, and Warriors Mark steps off Friday July 11 at the Bellwood Antis Football Field.
The 24-hour event raises money for the fight against cancer. This year's goal is $56,000.
Relay Chairperson Robbin Byers says it's a happy and sad event. "We get the party started at 10 a.m. and continue to walk and then the evening we kind of tone it down a little bit and remember those we've loved and lost," she explained.
Robbin just celebrated her 13th year as a thyroid cancer survivor. She says fundraisers like Relay for Life have helped lead to advances in detection and treatment that helped keep her alive.
