LAPD Officer shot seven times in stationhouse

The officer was hospitalized in good condition after his bulletproof vest stopped six of the bullets.
LOS ANGELES – A suspect opened fire in a Los Angeles police station Monday evening, striking an officer seven times before the officer and a colleague were able to return fire and wound the man.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the suspect entered LAPD’s West Traffic Division station around 8 p.m. Monday and engaged the officers in a conversation before brandishing a semi-automatic pistol and opening fire.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time of the shooting. Authorities say six of the seven bullets struck the vest, but was wounded in the shoulder. He was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and is listed in good condition.

The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition and his name has not been released. Police say they know of no motive for the shooting.

No one else in the police station was injured during the shooting.
