JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- Belinda Hancock was in court Wednesday where she waived her kidnapping charges.
The 32-year old was arrested back in January by U.S. Marshals. She was accused of taking her 3-year old God- daughter from her Johnstown home without her parent’s permission. The girl was found in the D.C. area and is currently in the custody of her grandmother.
“There was a preliminary hearing where all of the charges were waived,” said Tammy Bernstein, Assistant District Attorney. “Her charges of kidnapping and interfering with the custody of a child remain the same.”
“My client’s position is that she had the authority from the parents to have the child,” said Mike Filia, Cambria County Public Defender. “Hopefully we can get my client released from jail.”
Hancock told WTAJ News reporter Danielle Krout she is innocent.
