Increased security coming for some flights heading to U.S.

The enhanced security measures will be announced in the coming days for certain overseas airports.
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is stepping up security for some flights headed to the U.S. over heightened concern from global threats.

In a statement, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh (pronounced “Jay”) Johnson said enhanced security measures will be announced in the coming days at certain overseas airports.

Officials say there is no specific plot related to the change.

The U.S. has been focused on efforts by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula to develop undetectable explosives since the unsuccessful attempt by the “underwear bomber” to bring down a Delta Air Lines jet over Detroit in 2009.
