Hundreds of Local Nurses Vote on Contract

UPMC Altoona labor dispute could come to an end.

ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - Hundreds of area nurses are voting on a new wage contract. Registered nurses at UPMC Altoona will cast their ballots in shifts throughout  the day on Friday.

The hospital and the RNs, who are members of SEIU Healthcare, reached a tentative 3-year-contract agreement Wednesday evening. Neither side will say what's in it.

The nurses staged a one-day strike on February 11, after talks between the two sides broke down.

The union expects the votes to be counted by 9:30 pm Friday.

Nearly 800 RNs work at UPMC Altoona.
