Hometown Hero Wayne Hyde

Bedford Sculptor Wayne Hyde creates a new piece to honor area WWII veterans.
In this Hometown Hero segment, we recognize the efforts of an area sculptor who's spent a lifetime honoring service members.

Getting a public unveiling November 14th, was the latest sculpture by Beford artist Wayne Hyde. He's been sculpting since childhood and casting in bronze for 22 years. He has various pieces around the country, and even one in Buckingham Palace. For the most part, he focuses on veteran memorials.

His latest piece, of two soldiers sharing a moment away from the battlefield, will be installed in Bedford for all to appreciate.
Hyde says, "I hope they walk away with sense that our freedom is paid for by sacrifice, it comes down to human lives."
World War II veterans of Bedford got a chance to place their thumbprints on the statue. And many helped fund the project.

Hyde hopes to have that statue done by December, and is hoping for a spring dedication in Veterans Plaza in Bedford.
