Hometown Hero James Loy

Retired Admiral James Loy visits Altoona for Armed Forces Day.
In this Hometown Hero segment, we introduce you to one of the highest ranking servicemembers to ever come out of Altoona. May 17th was Armed Forces Day, a day to honor the sacrifices of veterans and servicemembers past and present. The largest ceremony in our region was at the VA Van Zandt Medical Center. Several hundred people were there to see the replica of the Wall that Heals. And listen to the guest speaker, Retired Admiral James Loy.
Loy went from commanding a patrol boat in Vietnam, to in 1998 becoming commandant of the U.S. Coast guard. In 2002, he became the administrator of the Transportation, Security Administration or TSA. Then in 2003 he became the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security and Acting Secretary of Homeland Security in 2005. He credits Altoona with giving him a great start.
One of the key themes of Admiral Loy's visit was "talk is cheap, behavior counts."
