Hometown Hero Andrew Scherzinger

Andrew Scherzinger has a rich history of service in the military and in present day civilian life in Altoona, PA.
This Hometown hero is a decorated veteran working at the Va Van Zandt Medical Center in Altoona.
Andrew Scherzinger is the president of the union that represents about 630 employees at the Va Van Zandt Medical Center and its clinics.
He was a military police officer between 2000 and 2004. In 2004, he was in Baghdad, Iraq as a convoy commander. That august, his humvee was hit by a roadside bomb.
He says, "The humvee that was in front of me dissappeared. I was bounced around inside like a rubber ball."
Scherzinger was knocked out and suffered a traumatic brain injury, among other injuries.
He earned a Bronze Star and the Purple Heart and was medically retired. He's worked in Blair County law enforcement over the last 15 years. And this 37 yr old says he plans to stay with the Va as long as he can.
