Franklin Attends State of the Union

New Penn State Head Coach invited to address.
ALTOONA - Less than a month after being named Penn State Head Coach, James Franklin traveled to Washington D.C. Tuesday for what might be the biggest recruiting challenge of his professional career.

“I'd like to get my picture taken with the President which I doubt is going to happen for my office and I'd like to get the President and First Lady to a football game next year. Figure out which one would work. I know that might not happen but I'd sure like to try,” Penn State Head Coach James Franklin says.

Franklin called the opportunity to attend the state of the union address in Washington a once in a lifetime opportunity, one that was provided for him by Representative Glenn Thompson.

Thompson says the state of the union address rings in a new year and is something the new penn state head coach can relate to.

“It brings countless possibilities and optimism and that's how I view Coach Franklin and his leadership coming to Penn State,” Representative Glenn Thompson (R, 5th District) says.

Thompson said he hoped to help make Franklin's goals for the night a reality and at the least give some fellow Penn State alums in Congress a chance to meet their new coach.
